Wreaths Across America

Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine provides Christmas wreaths to be placed on veteran’s grave sites every December. American Legion Post 53 is proud and honored to receive a wreath to be placed on Medal of Honor recipient M/SGT Charles Hoskins’ plot. He is buried at Valleau Cemetery. M/SGT Hoskins is one of five buried in New Jersey.

A Quilt of Honor was awarded to member Chris Stout for his relentless participation in Veterans and military affairs. He is the author of At Death He Was 25, a book about the Ridgewood residents that made the ultimate sacrifice.  Chris is the Ridgewood Veteran Memorial Park Monument historian and “Legionnaire of the Year”  in 2011.

Traditionally, the quilt is awarded to individuals who while on active duty received special recognition from their superior officers.  The following members have previously been awarded a Quilt of Honor, Matt Bombace, Jack Geraghty, Pete Gibbons, Stan Kober, Wayne Lemme, Jerry Maksymowicz, Mark Steppe, Al Stone, Jim Sutherland, Joe Vrana and Jack Marcasciano.
