In a project initiated by American Legion Post 53, the Ridgewood Village Council approved at the June 14, 2023 Public Meeting placement of a permanent tribute to Gold Star Families in Memorial Park at Van Neste Square. 

Referred by some as “the unseen side of Memorial Day.” The monument is meant to be an instrument of expression, loss and grief to portray the emotion and strength of Gold Star Family members, the anguish that families experience with any military loss. 

On September 29, 2024, Gold Star Family Day, the monument was proudly unveiled at Van Neste Square, a testament to the dedication and generosity of our community.  Ridgewood American Legion Post 53 extends heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed and donated, making this lasting tribute possible.
